Day 3 · Maasai Mara Full Day
Among the Prides & the River
We spend the day exploring the richest predator areas of the Mara. We focus on the big cats — the Black Rock pride, the Marsh pride made famous by the BBC's Big Cat Diary, the Double Cross pride, and the Rekero pride, quickly becoming as powerful as the Marsh.
These areas are also known for cheetah and leopard, and we'll likely see elephants, hippos, Maasai giraffes, common zebras, gnu, impalas, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, topi, hartebeest, black-backed jackals and spotted hyenas — the Mara is one of the lushest reserves in Africa. On past safaris we have photographed black rhino in this area.
You'll also be closer to the Mara River. Your experienced driver-guide monitors the migrating herds of wildebeest, and as soon as a crossing looks likely, we drive toward the river in hopes of capturing a large one. The adrenaline starts pumping when you see the herds line up and march toward the river, gathering along the banks in mass. In the late evening, share the day's events around the campfire before a scrumptious dinner and your luxury canvas tent.
