A Sanctuary Beneath the African Sky

In the heart of Maasai land, the rhythm of life beats strong. Narok's bustling streets offer a brief respite before the wilderness calls once more. At your lodge, the savannah's embrace is warm, inviting you to partake in nature's quiet symphony.

As the sun dips low, the Maasai Mara reveals its treasures. You find yourself amidst the dance of predators and prey — a spectacle of life unfolding in golden light.

The lodge, a sanctuary beneath the African sky, offers respite as the stars weave tales of ancient wanderers. Awaken to the call of the wild: a dawn game drive promises encounters with the majestic and the elusive. Perhaps you choose to soar above in a hot air balloon — the earth a tapestry below, the air filled with anticipation.

Day by Day

Day 1 · Nairobi → Maasai Mara

The Wilderness Calls

Transfer from your Nairobi hotel to Wilson Airport for a morning scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara. Your driver-guide meets you at the airstrip and transfers you to your lodge with an en-route game drive — arriving in time for lunch and check-in.

When the heat starts to die down, set off on your afternoon game drive in search of predators and the plethora of game viewing and photographic opportunities that are every bit as superb as advertised. Expect the unexpected — the Mara always delivers.

After a productive search for game, sundowners are enjoyed whenever and wherever the end of the day meets us — a breathtaking way to finish. Back at camp: hot showers, a sumptuous dinner in the candle-lit mess tent, and the starry African night around the campfire. Once safely escorted to your tent by your Maasai warrior, you'll be lulled to sleep by grazing hippo and roaring lion.

Day 2 · The Maasai Mara

Among the Prides

Spend the day exploring the richest predator areas of the Mara. We focus on the big cats — the Black Rock pride, the Marsh pride made famous by the BBC's Big Cat Diary, the Double Cross pride, and the Rekero pride, quickly becoming as powerful as the Marsh.

These areas are also known for cheetah and leopard, and we'll likely see elephants, hippos, Maasai giraffes, common zebras, gnu, impalas, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, topi, hartebeest, black-backed jackals and spotted hyenas — the Mara is one of the lushest reserves in Africa. On past safaris we have photographed black rhino here.

You'll also be closer to the Mara River. Your experienced driver-guide monitors the migrating herds, and as soon as a crossing looks likely, we drive toward the river in hopes of capturing a large one. In the late evening, share the day's events around the campfire before a scrumptious dinner and your luxury canvas tent.

Day 3 · Maasai Mara → Nairobi

Farewell to the Mara

Enjoy an early morning game drive before your transfer to the airstrip for the return flight to Nairobi.

BreakfastEnd of services

Four Prides. One Kingdom.

The Mara's great cat families are dynasties — each with its own territory, its own character, its own stories.

Territory

Black Rock Pride

Named for the dark granite outcrops that mark their range, this pride patrols the open plains where termite mounds become lookout posts.

The Famous

Marsh Pride

Made famous by the BBC's Big Cat Diary. Their story has been told for decades — and no visit to the Mara feels complete without seeing them.

The Rivals

Double Cross Pride

A neighbouring dynasty with a fierce reputation — their boundary disputes with rival prides are the stuff of safari legend.

On the Rise

Rekero Pride

Quickly becoming as powerful as the Marsh pride. Still writing their story — which makes each sighting feel like a piece of history.

The Mara River

Where the Drama Unfolds

The adrenaline starts pumping when you see the herds line up and march toward the river, gathering along the banks in mass.

The suspense begins as you watch the first wildebeest, zebra, or eland put in a hoof to test the waters. The drama unfolds as they are spooked — the mass herd runs back leaving a thick cloud of dust — or they plunge into the crocodile-infested waters in a mass stampede, risking injury or death to reach the other side.

Your guide is watching for the signs. When a crossing is imminent, you'll be there.

The Lodge

Nights 1 & 2 · Maasai Mara

Mara Ngenche Safari Camp

An intimate tented camp tucked along the Mara River, Mara Ngenche blends classic safari elegance with the drama of the wild — hippos grazing below, lions calling at night, and the whole of the Mara just beyond your tent.
